Technical Consulting Service

The Role of the Technical Consultant

The Five-O offers comprehensive solutions for any writer, producer, director, actor, or department HOD looking for a specialist Technical Consultant that can advise on real-world professional protocols.

The global Film/TV Production industry relies on ‘technical consultants’ who advise on medical, legal, military, police, and emergency services protocols. This technical input helps to infuse stories, scenes and characters with accuracy, authenticity, and credibility on screen.

Technical consultants of various disciplines are not hard to find if you try hard enough. Everyone knows a friendly cop, paramedic, or firefighter. But the South African Film/TV production industry has been limited by the time it takes to find an accessible resource that provides a one-stop-shop where all these specialists can be found under one roof. Until now.

Technical Consultancy Offering

The Five-O team comprises independent subject specialists in various disciplines that offer practical insights for realistic story development, authentic characters and credible scene blocking.

Other Five-O Offerings

Emergency Services Uniforms and Accessories

Any film/TV production wishing to depict a uniformed police officer, marked SAPS vehicle or any uniformed member of the emergency services, must first obtain written consent from the Provincial Police Commissioner or equivalent in the relevant service unit.

However, it is generally known that obtaining this consent presents a major obstacle to production.

SAPS AND EMERGENCY SERVICE APPROVALS ARE RESTRICTIVE AND OFTEN RESULT IN COSTLY PRODUCTION DELAYS.

The Industry Need

There is a clear need for a production service that provides accessible, affordable ‘police’ uniforms, insignia, accessories and apparel that do not require SAPS approval.

Our offerings covers all ‘emergency service uniform’ costume needs for hire or purchase, within budget and with sufficient sizes and quantities for optimum production value.

"The casting of Jack Devnarain as the lead in the cop heist film 31 Million Reason’s was firstly due to his talent as an actor and that he was the best person in SA to play the character. The fact that Jack had spent time in the police force was a huge bonus for us in the authentic portrayal of the policeman. Jack’s understanding of how policemen think and behave brought incredible gravitas to the role and the film in general. Jack was an inspiration and great source of true depiction of policemen and the psychy of the Durban criminals."

John Barker, Director - 31 Million Reasons
